2 Day Denver Itinerary

Two full days, split so you’re not backtracking, with downtown and the Capitol on day one and Red Rocks and the mountains on day two.

Two days in Denver is enough to properly cover downtown and the Capitol, and still get out to Red Rocks for a proper taste of the mountains. Here’s how I’d split it, day by day.

Day 01

Downtown & the Capitol

Start at Union Station, then walk to the Colorado State Capitol for a free tour and a photo at the mile-high step. Grab lunch in LoDo, then spend the afternoon browsing the Denver Art Museum, a genuinely strong collection housed in a striking building.

Finish the day in RiNo, the River North Art District, for dinner and murals along the way.

Morning Union Station, the Colorado State Capitol
Afternoon LoDo, the Denver Art Museum
Evening RiNo, dinner and murals
“Book the Red Rocks Express shuttle for day two ahead of time, genuinely. It departs from Union Station on set days and fills up, so it’s worth locking in before you arrive.”
Day 02

Red Rocks & the Foothills

Spend the morning at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, a world-famous outdoor venue carved into sandstone monoliths, the amphitheatre steps and trails worth exploring even without a show. The Colorado Music Hall of Fame sits within the Visitor Center too, worth a stop.

In the afternoon, head back toward Denver via Golden if time allows, a proper small mountain town with its own brewery scene. Finish the day with dinner back downtown.

Morning Red Rocks Park, the Visitor Center
Afternoon Golden, if time allows
Evening Dinner back downtown

Getting around across both days

Downtown Denver is genuinely walkable, most of day one’s sights sit within a comfortable stroll of each other. A shuttle or rideshare is worth it for Red Rocks on day two, a proper distance out from the city.

If you only have time for one thing each day

Day one, make it the Colorado State Capitol, genuinely the single best orientation to the city’s history and geography. Day two, make it Red Rocks, a proper contrast to downtown and one of the most distinctive natural sights in the country.

That’s everything I’ve got.

A note before you plan around this: prices, opening hours, booking requirements and admission details in this guide were correct at the time of writing, but venues change these often and sometimes without notice. Always check directly with the attraction or its official website before you travel or build a schedule around a specific time or price.

Before travelling to any destination featured on this site, please also check your government’s latest travel advice, as safety situations, entry requirements and travel warnings can change.
