2 Day Victoria Itinerary

Two full days, split so you’re not backtracking, with the Inner Harbour and afternoon tea on day one and whale watching and Butchart Gardens on day two.

Two days in Victoria is enough to properly cover the city’s British-influenced charm, and still get out on the water for whales and into the gardens that make the region famous. Here’s how I’d split it, day by day.

Day 01

The Inner Harbour & Afternoon Tea

Start at the Inner Harbour, the Parliament Buildings and the Fairmont Empress hotel facing each other across the water. Spend the afternoon exploring the Royal BC Museum and Chinatown, both a short walk from the harbour.

Finish the day with afternoon tea at the Empress, book well ahead in peak season, tables fill months out.

Morning The Inner Harbour, the Parliament Buildings
Afternoon The Royal BC Museum, Chinatown
Evening Afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress
“Book Empress afternoon tea weeks ahead for a June to August visit, genuinely. Tables book out months in advance in peak season, and off-season availability is considerably easier.”
Day 02

Whale Watching & Butchart Gardens

Spend the morning whale watching, departing directly from the Inner Harbour, the Salish Sea home to orcas, grey whales and harbour seals. In the afternoon, head to Butchart Gardens, a National Historic Site transformed from a limestone quarry into one of the world’s most celebrated show gardens.

Finish the day with the gardens’ summer illuminations if timing allows, a proper way to close out two days on Vancouver Island.

Morning Whale watching tour
Afternoon Butchart Gardens
Evening Summer illuminations, if in season

Getting around across both days

Downtown Victoria is genuinely walkable on day one, the Harbour, museum and Chinatown all sit close together. Day two requires a car, shuttle or seasonal bus route to reach Butchart Gardens, roughly 30 minutes outside the city.

If you only have time for one thing each day

Day one, make it the Inner Harbour, genuinely the single most defining feature of the city. Day two, make it Butchart Gardens, a proper contrast to the harbour’s atmosphere and one of the most celebrated gardens in the world.

That’s everything I’ve got.
