2 Day Windsor Itinerary

Two full days, split so you’re not backtracking, with the Castle and Eton on day one and the Long Walk and a river cruise on day two.

Two days in Windsor is enough to properly cover the town’s royal history, and still take in the riverside at a proper unhurried pace. Here’s how I’d split it, day by day.

Day 01

Windsor Castle & Eton College

Start early at Windsor Castle, book tickets ahead as it’s closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Cross Windsor Bridge in the afternoon to Eton College, its Museum of Eton Life open to the public on Sunday afternoons.

Finish the day with dinner in the town centre, a proper way to close out a day steeped in royal and academic history.

Morning Windsor Castle, the State Apartments
Afternoon Eton College, the Eton Walkway
Evening Dinner in Windsor town centre
“Check the Eton College Heritage Tours schedule if you’re keen to go inside. Guided tours run seasonally on Friday afternoons only, and booking ahead is essential.”
Day 02

The Long Walk & a River Cruise

Spend the morning walking the Long Walk, a properly striking 2.6-mile tree-lined avenue stretching from the castle to the Copper Horse statue on Snow Hill. In the afternoon, take a French Brothers river cruise along the Thames, passing Eton’s boating yard and Windsor’s promenade.

Finish the day at a riverside pub, a proper way to end two days in the royal town.

Morning The Long Walk, Windsor Great Park
Afternoon A Thames river cruise
Evening A riverside pub dinner

Getting around across both days

Windsor town centre is genuinely walkable on day one, the Castle and Eton both sit within a comfortable stroll. The Long Walk and river cruise on day two are also easily reached on foot from the town.

If you only have time for one thing each day

Day one, make it Windsor Castle, genuinely the single most significant sight in the town. Day two, make it the Long Walk, a proper contrast to the castle’s interiors and a properly scenic way to see the surrounding parkland.

That’s everything I’ve got.
