2 Day Philadelphia Itinerary

Two full days, split so you’re not backtracking, with Revolutionary history on day one and the museums and food scene on day two.

Two days in Philadelphia is enough to properly cover Independence National Historical Park, and still get out to the Museum District and Reading Terminal Market for a proper taste of the wider city. Here’s how I’d split it, day by day.

Day 01

Revolutionary History

Start at the Liberty Bell Center, free and no tickets needed, then Independence Hall with a booked timed entry ticket. Walk the wider historical park, Congress Hall, Franklin Court and Washington Square, before lunch nearby.

In the afternoon, take in the Museum of the American Revolution, a genuinely well-regarded museum covering the fuller context of the founding. Finish the day with dinner at a proper Old City restaurant.

Morning The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall
Afternoon Congress Hall, Franklin Court, the Museum of the American Revolution
Evening Dinner in Old City
“Book Independence Hall tickets as soon as you arrive at the Visitor Center. They’re free but timed, and same-day slots can fill up by mid-morning in peak season.”
Day 02

Museums & Food

Spend the morning at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a genuinely strong collection and the “Rocky Steps” out front worth the climb regardless of your interest in the film. The Rodin Museum sits nearby too, a proper smaller stop worth adding if time allows.

In the afternoon, head to Reading Terminal Market for lunch, dozens of food stalls under one historic roof. Try a proper cheesesteak from a local favourite before finishing the day exploring the surrounding streets.

Morning The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rocky Steps
Afternoon Reading Terminal Market, a cheesesteak
Evening Explore the surrounding neighbourhood

Getting around across both days

Central Philadelphia is genuinely walkable, most of day one’s sights sit within a comfortable stroll of each other. A bus or rideshare is worth it for the Art Museum on day two, a proper distance from the historic core.

If you only have time for one thing each day

Day one, make it the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall together, genuinely the single most significant site in American history. Day two, make it Reading Terminal Market, a proper contrast to the historic sights and one of the best ways to taste the city in one stop.

That’s everything I’ve got.
