2 Day Honolulu Itinerary
Two full days, split so you’re not backtracking, with Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head on day one and the beaches and bay on day two.
Two days in Honolulu is enough to properly cover Pearl Harbor and the classic land-based sights, and still get out to Oahu’s best snorkelling for a proper taste of the water. Here’s how I’d split it, day by day.
Pearl Harbor & Diamond Head
Start early at Pearl Harbor National Memorial, the USS Arizona Memorial boat program requires a reservation booked well ahead. Allow a proper morning for the visitor centre and memorials, then head to Diamond Head in the afternoon for the hike and the view.
Finish the day at Waikiki Beach, dinner along Kalakaua Avenue and a sunset walk on the sand.
Afternoon Diamond Head State Monument
Evening Dinner and sunset in Waikiki
Hanauma Bay & the Beaches
Spend the morning at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, a genuinely stunning snorkelling spot in a volcanic crater, home to a proper variety of reef fish and sea turtles. Reservations are required and the preserve closes Tuesdays for conservation, check ahead before planning around it.
In the afternoon, relax at Waikiki Beach or explore Kapiolani Park nearby, before a final evening watching the sunset over the water.
Afternoon Waikiki Beach, Kapiolani Park
Evening Sunset over the water
Getting around across both days
Waikiki is genuinely walkable, but Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay all sit a proper drive away. A rental car or rideshare is worth budgeting for across both days.
If you only have time for one thing each day
Day one, make it Pearl Harbor, genuinely the single most significant site on Oahu. Day two, make it Hanauma Bay, a proper contrast to the history-heavy first day and one of the best snorkelling spots in Hawaii.
That’s everything I’ve got.
