2 Day Kraków Itinerary

Two full days, split so you’re not backtracking, with the Old Town and Wawel on day one and the Wieliczka Salt Mine on day two.

Two days in Kraków is enough to properly cover the Old Town and Wawel Castle, and still get out to one of the most distinctive day trips in Europe. Here’s how I’d split it, day by day.

Day 01

The Old Town & Wawel

Start at the Main Square, timing your arrival for the hejnał on the hour, then walk through the Cloth Hall and down into Rynek Underground. Grab lunch nearby, then spend the afternoon at Wawel Castle, the state rooms and cathedral both worth the separate tickets.

Finish the day in Kazimierz, dinner at a proper local restaurant and a wander through the former Jewish quarter’s street art and synagogues.

Morning The Main Square, the Cloth Hall, Rynek Underground
Afternoon Wawel Castle, Wawel Cathedral
Evening Dinner and a wander through Kazimierz
“Book Wawel Castle tickets online ahead, genuinely. Daily entry numbers are limited for the state rooms, and they sell out considerably faster than you’d expect in peak season.”
Day 02

The Wieliczka Salt Mine

Spend the day at the Wieliczka Salt Mine, one of the oldest continuously operating salt mines in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a guided tour is required and includes an underground chapel carved entirely from salt. A short train ride from Kraków Główny makes this an easy half-day trip.

Back in Kraków for the afternoon, wander Planty Park, the green belt ringing the Old Town where the medieval walls once stood, before a final dinner in the city.

Morning The Wieliczka Salt Mine, a guided tour
Afternoon Planty Park
Evening Dinner back in Kraków

Getting around across both days

Central Kraków is genuinely walkable, most of day one’s sights sit within a comfortable stroll of each other. Day two requires a short train ride from Kraków Główny to Wieliczka, the cheapest and most direct route out.

If you only have time for one thing each day

Day one, make it Wawel Castle, genuinely the single best introduction to the city’s royal history. Day two, make it the Wieliczka Salt Mine, a proper contrast to the Old Town and one of the most distinctive sights in the country.

That’s everything I’ve got.
