2 Day Buenos Aires Itinerary
Two full days, split so you’re not backtracking, with San Telmo and Recoleta on day one and La Boca and a tango show on day two.
Two days in Buenos Aires is enough to properly cover the city’s iconic barrios, and still see a proper tango show before you leave. Here’s how I’d split it, day by day.
San Telmo & Recoleta
Start with a morning in San Telmo, its cobblestone streets and antique shops worth a slow wander, particularly on a Sunday when the fair takes over Plaza Dorrego. Spend the afternoon at Recoleta Cemetery, its marble mausoleums properly worth a couple of hours.
Finish the day with dinner in Recoleta or Palermo, both offering a proper range of restaurants.
Afternoon Recoleta Cemetery
Evening Dinner in Recoleta or Palermo
La Boca & a Tango Show
Spend the morning at Caminito in La Boca, its colourful houses making for a proper photo stop, best visited during daylight and kept to the main tourist zone. Return to central Buenos Aires by early afternoon.
Finish the day with a proper tango show and dinner, several venues in San Telmo and Abasto combine both into one evening.
Afternoon Return to central Buenos Aires
Evening A tango show and dinner
Getting around across both days
San Telmo, Recoleta and Palermo are genuinely reachable by taxi or rideshare within minutes of each other. La Boca requires more care, stick to the Caminito tourist zone and visit only during daylight.
If you only have time for one thing each day
Day one, make it Recoleta Cemetery, genuinely the single most striking sight in the city. Day two, make it a tango show, a proper contrast to the daytime sightseeing and one of Argentina’s most iconic cultural experiences.
That’s everything I’ve got.
