Prague for Couples
A sunrise crossing, a hilltop view, and a park bench facing the bridges, the version of Prague that actually earns the word romantic.
Prague does most of the romantic work on its own, spires and cobbled lanes, a river winding through centuries of history, and enough hidden corners for a couple to find their own quiet moment. Here’s how to spend the time on the moments that are worth it.
Charles Bridge at sunrise
Set the alarm for 5.30am, well worth it, the bridge is packed with tour groups by mid-morning, but at sunrise it’s just you, the river, and thirty Baroque statues in the quiet gentle light. The crossing back toward Prague Castle is one of the most photographed views in Europe for good reason.
Petřín Hill and the Lookout Tower
A properly romantic climb, Petřín Hill’s tree-lined paths lead up to a smaller cousin of the Eiffel Tower, sweeping views over the whole city at the top. Time it for cherry blossom season in early April if the timing allows, locals traditionally kiss beneath the blooming trees on May Day.
The John Lennon Wall and Malá Strana
A properly lovely, considerably less crowded wander, the John Lennon Wall’s ever-changing graffiti offers a proper contrast to the medieval architecture around it. Continue through Malá Strana’s baroque palaces and narrow cobbled lanes, one of the most picturesque stretches in the whole city.
Letná Park
A properly quiet escape from the tourist centre, Letná’s hilltop position gives sweeping panoramic views over the bridges and the river below. Bring a bottle from the supermarket and find a spot on the wall, open drinking is legal here, and the atmosphere is properly relaxed rather than polished.
A day trip to Karlštejn Castle
A properly memorable escape from the city, this medieval castle houses the Bohemian crown jewels and sits in a picturesque village worth a wander before or after the tour. Pair it with a traditional Czech tavern lunch for a proper full day out together.
Where to eat
Vinograf offers a widely relaxed setting for a romantic wine tasting, Czech and international wines in a comfortable, unpretentious space. For something more special, book ahead at one of the city’s higher-end restaurants, and a candlelit dinner in Malá Strana rounds out a proper evening together.
If a proposal is part of the plan
Prague Castle at sunset comes up again and again for exactly this reason, though Letná Park and Petřín Hill both offer quieter alternatives away from the thickest crowds. A sunset boat cruise remains the classic, low-pressure choice if drama’s the goal, and the Vrtba Garden’s manicured terraces offer real privacy for anyone wanting a quieter moment.
That’s everything I’ve got.
