Best Time to Visit Vancouver
Weather, crowds and one very rainy winter, broken down so you can pick the trip you actually want.
There’s no single correct month to visit Vancouver, it depends whether you’re chasing good weather, low prices, or thin crowds on the Seawall. Here’s how the year actually breaks down.
June-September
Summer brings Vancouver’s driest, most reliable weather, considerably less rain than the rest of the year and plenty of daylight for a full day on the Seawall or the North Shore. Both June and September offer a slightly quieter version of the same good conditions.
Summer (July-August): busiest, priciest
July and August bring Vancouver’s heaviest crowds and highest hotel prices, particularly around Stanley Park and Granville Island. Book well ahead if travelling this window, particularly for accommodation and Capilano tickets.
November-February: cheapest, quietest, wettest
Winter brings Vancouver’s lowest hotel prices and thinnest crowds, alongside genuinely persistent rain and grey skies. Capilano’s Canyon Lights display, running mid-November through mid-January, adds a genuinely festive counterpoint to the wet season though.
Month by month, the short version
November-February: wettest, cheapest, quietest, Canyon Lights in December.
March-May: shoulder season begins, mild and increasingly dry.
June: a genuine sweet spot, good weather without peak crowds.
July-August: driest and busiest, book ahead for everything.
September: the other best window, mild, thinning crowds.
October: cooling down, rain returning, still reasonable for sightseeing.
Events worth timing around
Capilano’s Canyon Lights, running from mid-November through mid-January, is genuinely worth the trip on its own if festive atmosphere is what you’re after, hundreds of thousands of lights across the bridge and canyon. The Celebration of Light fireworks each summer and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival each June add a proper counterpoint to the city’s calendar too.
That’s everything I’ve got.
