Hong Kong with Kids
Six giant pandas including twin cubs born right there in the park, a cable car ride between two very different zones, and a funicular railway climbing to one of the best views in Asia, the version of Hong Kong built for families.
Hong Kong works well with kids in tow, several of its best sights are hands-on or thrilling by design, and the excellent, air-conditioned MTR makes moving between them easy. Here’s how I’d spend a family day here.
Ocean Park
A properly immersive theme park and aquarium, home to six giant pandas including twin cubs born right there in the park, plus dolphin shows and a cable car ride connecting the Waterfront and Summit zones. Properly built for a full day out, worth planning around given its size.
Hong Kong Disneyland
A properly magical theme park for younger kids, seven themed zones covering everything from Toy Story Land to Adventureland, sized smaller and more manageable than other Disney parks. A genuine full-day option, particularly for kids aged four to twelve.
Victoria Peak by tram
A properly dramatic sight for kids, the historic Peak Tram’s steep climb is a genuine adventure in itself, and the Sky Terrace’s view rewards the ride. The Peak Tower’s shops and dining options add a proper break at the top.
Temple Street Night Market
A properly sensory experience for kids, Temple Street’s colours, sounds and endless stalls make for a genuinely memorable evening wander, even if nobody buys anything. Street food samples along the way are widely a highlight for younger visitors.
The Tsim Sha Tsui promenade
A proper free spot for kids, this waterfront walkway offers harbour views and the nightly Symphony of Lights show. Free, unhurried, and an easy way to end a day of sightseeing.
Where to eat with kids
A cha chaan teng, a Hong Kong-style diner, is genuinely an easy, reliable win with kids, casual and quick with a menu covering most tastes. Dim sum works well for families too, small shared plates suited to picky eaters.
A few practical notes
Central Hong Kong is genuinely stroller-friendly, mostly flat, paved streets and an excellent MTR system throughout. The heat and humidity run properly intense in summer, worth planning outdoor time for morning or evening with kids in tow.
That’s everything I’ve got.
