Best Time to Visit Marrakech
Weather, crowds and prices, broken down so you can pick the trip you actually want.
There’s no single correct month to visit Marrakech, it depends whether you’re chasing good weather, low prices, or thin crowds in the souks. Here’s how the year actually breaks down.
March-May, or September-November
Spring and autumn bring Marrakech’s most comfortable weather, warm and sunny without summer’s punishing heat. Both windows still offer plenty of daylight for wandering the medina and the gardens without the extreme temperatures.
Summer (June-August): hottest, driest, punishing heat
Summer brings Marrakech’s most extreme heat, regularly over 40 degrees during the day, considerably harder going for sightseeing than any other season. Hotel prices can actually drop during this window given the reduced demand, worth considering if you can handle the heat.
Winter (December-February): cooler, thinner crowds, chilly nights
Winter brings Marrakech’s mildest daytime temperatures and thinner crowds, alongside considerably colder nights than most visitors expect from a desert city. The medina and gardens work well regardless, and riads with fireplaces are worth seeking out for the evenings.
Month by month, the short version
December-February: mild days, cold nights, thinner crowds.
March-April: shoulder season begins, warm and increasingly busy.
May: a genuine sweet spot, warm without peak summer’s heat.
June-August: hottest, driest, punishing midday heat.
September-October: the other best window, warm, thinning crowds.
November: cooling down, still a reasonable window for sightseeing.
Events worth timing around
Ramadan, which shifts each year on the Islamic calendar, changes the rhythm of the city considerably, many restaurants close during daylight hours, worth planning around if it falls during your trip. The Marrakech International Film Festival each autumn and various local moussems, or festivals, add a proper cultural counterpoint to the city’s calendar too.
That’s everything I’ve got.
