Seoul with Kids
An indoor theme park with a real ice rink no matter the weather, a museum built entirely around touching and exploring traditional Korean life, and palace guards marching in full ceremonial dress, the version of Seoul built for families.
Seoul works well with kids in tow, several of its best sights are hands-on or dramatic by design, and the excellent subway makes moving between them easy. Here’s how I’d spend a family day here.
Lotte World
A properly immersive indoor and outdoor theme park, home to rides, an ice rink and a folk museum all under one roof at Magic Island. Properly built for a full day out, worth planning around given its size, and a reliable option no matter the weather.
The National Folk Museum of Korea
A properly interactive museum on the Gyeongbokgung Palace grounds, its dedicated Children’s Museum lets kids touch replicas and explore traditional Korean daily life hands-on. A genuine indoor option if the weather turns, worth a couple of hours.
The Royal Guard Changing Ceremony
A properly dramatic sight for kids, the ceremony at Gyeongbokgung Palace’s main gate runs several times daily, guards in full traditional dress marching with drums. A good, easy way to combine sightseeing with a proper spectacle.
Everland
A properly fun outing for kids, South Korea’s largest theme park sits a bit further from the city centre but offers rides, a zoo and seasonal flower festivals. A genuine full day out if time allows for the trip.
Cheonggyecheon Stream
A proper free spot for kids, this restored stream running through downtown offers stepping stones and open walkways for wading and running around. Free, unhurried, and an easy way to burn off energy between the bigger sights.
Where to eat with kids
Kimbap is genuinely an easy, reliable win with kids, mild and available at nearly every corner. Korean fried chicken works well for families too, casual and quick between sights.
A few practical notes
Central Seoul is genuinely stroller-friendly, mostly flat, paved streets and an excellent subway system throughout. Pack proper layers, particularly in winter, when temperatures can drop considerably lower than many families expect.
That’s everything I’ve got.
