Solo Travel in Vancouver

A seawall built for a solo bike ride at whatever pace suits you, a market food stall counter where nobody blinks at a table for one, and a rainforest canyon that doesn’t need company to take your breath away.

Vancouver rewards a solo trip well. Stanley Park suits a slow, independent pace, and the food truck and market culture is built around quick, casual dining that suits one person just fine. Here’s how to spend the time well on your own.

The classic

Stanley Park, at your own pace

A properly rewarding solo activity, renting a bike and doing the full Seawall loop requires no company at all, no need to coordinate with anyone about the pace or the stops. Go early if you can, considerably quieter than a weekend afternoon.

“Go to Granville Island on a weekday morning if you can. It’s properly quieter before the weekend crowds, and browsing the market stalls solo is one of the better ways to spend a slow morning.”
The absorbing one

Vancouver Art Gallery or the Museum of Anthropology

A properly engrossing solo museum visit, no need to match anyone else’s pace through the galleries. The Museum of Anthropology’s collection of First Nations art and totem poles offers an absorbing solo afternoon.

Something different

The Capilano Suspension Bridge, solo

A genuinely easy solo day trip, the free shuttle handles the logistics and crossing the bridge alone is a proper adventure in its own right. No need for company to appreciate the rainforest canyon below.

The wander

Gastown and Chinatown on foot

A properly rewarding solo wander, the historic streets and steam clock of Gastown reward slow, unplanned exploring. No need to coordinate with anyone about which street to duck down next.

The guided option

A free walking tour or brewery tour

An easy way to meet other travellers and get local context in one go, free walking tours through downtown and brewery tours through Mount Pleasant both run regularly and welcome solo bookings without a second thought. Worth it early in the trip to get orientated.

Where to eat alone

Granville Island’s market covers a solo lunch easily, stalls and counter seating throughout, nobody thinks twice about a single diner. A food truck works well for a solo dinner too, cheap, quick and available across the city.

A note on safety

Vancouver is genuinely safe for solo visitors in the main tourist areas, low crime beyond the usual pickpocket risk in crowded spots downtown. Downtown and Stanley Park are walkable after dark along the main routes, and the SkyTrain and rideshares cover the outer neighbourhoods efficiently.

That’s everything I’ve got.

A note before you plan around this: prices, opening hours, booking requirements and admission details in this guide were correct at the time of writing, but venues change these often and sometimes without notice. Always check directly with the attraction or its official website before you travel or build a schedule around a specific time or price.

Before travelling to any destination featured on this site, please also check your government’s latest travel advice, as safety situations, entry requirements and travel warnings can change.
