24 Hours in Miami
One day, the beach, the murals and the Cuban heritage, hour by hour, ending with sunset back where the day began.
Twenty-four hours in Miami means picking South Beach’s Art Deco charm, Wynwood’s murals, and Little Havana’s Cuban heart over trying to cover the whole sprawling city, this order gets you all three without wasting time backtracking. Here’s the full plan, hour by hour.
Sunrise at South Pointe Park
Start at the southern tip of Miami Beach for sunrise over the water, panoramic views of the coastline, cruise ships departing PortMiami, and the Downtown skyline in the distance. It’s quiet at this hour, before the beach properly wakes up, and free to walk the whole park.
Ocean Drive and the Art Deco District
Walk north along Ocean Drive to see South Beach’s famous pastel Art Deco buildings, over 800 preserved structures along this stretch. The Art Deco Welcome Center runs a daily walking tour if you want the history explained properly, or rent a Citi Bike and cover more ground yourself along the Beachwalk.
Lunch and Lincoln Road
Head to Lincoln Road, a pedestrian mall good for people-watching and light shopping, before a Cuban lunch, Havana 1957 is a reliable choice with live music most days. This is also a good window for an AC break given how quickly the heat builds through the day.
Wynwood Walls
A 15-20 minute drive or rideshare from South Beach, Wynwood Walls is one of Miami’s most photographed attractions, murals and street art covering a former industrial neighbourhood turned open-air gallery. A self-guided wander works fine, or join one of the shop’s guided tours for more context on individual artists.
Little Havana and Calle Ocho
A short drive from Wynwood, Little Havana’s main strip, Calle Ocho, is the place for Cuban coffee, guava pastries, and a genuine sense of the city’s Cuban heritage. Domino Park, where retirees play dominoes most afternoons, is worth a look even just walking past.
Sunset at South Pointe Park or a rooftop bar
Head back to South Pointe Park for sunset, or up to a rooftop bar like Watr at the 1 Hotel for a paid version of the same view with a cocktail in hand. Either way, this is the golden hour Miami is actually known for, worth timing the day around.
Dinner in Sunset Harbour
A short walk west of Ocean Drive, Sunset Harbour offers noticeably better food and lower prices than the tourist strip itself, Stiltsville Fish Bar and Pubbelly Sushi are both solid options without needing a reservation weeks out.
Drinks and a taste of Miami nightlife
Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Co. is a well-regarded cocktail bar if a proper nightcap is the plan, or head into one of Miami’s bigger clubs, LIV, WALL or STORY, if you want the full late-night experience. Either way, this is the natural point to call it a day, or a night, depending on how the evening goes.
That’s everything I’ve got.
